Someone will ask why an African American flag?
Is it designed to protest the American Flag, and replace our national symbol? The answer is both yes and no.
It is not designed to annul the glory, tradition or significance of our national symbol, but African Americans do often hesitate to embrace the current national symbol, The American Flag.
Such phrases associated with the flag as “One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all” cause African Americans to stumble over its symbolism.
It is not that we do not love this nation, because we love it as only sons and daughters can, but the American flag fails in total representation of us!
The American Flag symbolizes Americas struggle for independence from England, but it has never truly symbolized African American struggles which continue even to this day.
Our roots hail from Africa and we need a national symbol that speaks for all of our heritage, that symbol is The African American Flag!
The African American Flag represents the dignity, pride and hope of a people who are Americans from Africa.
As symbolized in the design we are a nation within a nation, without a nation, yet the strongest nation of people that ever lived.
The African American Flag symbolizes the strength of people who have persevered through perilous plights, overcome disparate conditions, and wealth with difficult demands, to achieve the inalienable right to exist as a people who are both African and American.
The African American Flag symbolizes who we are as a nationality of African American people. We hope that it will provide an “Identity” to the African American people and serve as an outlet of pride an unity. Our desire is that you will embrace the African American Flag as a new beginning of self awareness and self-esteem. This Is Our Flag!
